Long Night of Research 2024

On 24 May, the UNODA Vienna Office participated in the Austria-wide initiative, Long Night of Research, to raise awareness among the public about the impact of new and emerging technologies on disarmament efforts. Our booth set up in the Vienna International Centre (Vienna, Austria) offered interactive games and fun activities, as well as souvenirs to take away. Visitors of all age groups stopped by to participate in one of the activities, or to chat with UNODA colleagues and learn about the work of the Office.

Training course Resolution 1540 (2004) available in all UN official languages

Resolution 1540 (2004) is a legally binding instrument which obligates UN Member States to refrain from providing any form of support to non-State actors, in particular terrorists, from acquiring, proliferating and using nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, their means of delivery and related materials. This advanced online training course provides an in-depth introduction into the topic through six thematic modules delivered in an interactive manner. The course is now available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

New learning programme: Youth Leader Fund for a World without Nuclear Weapons

The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), with the generous support of the government of Japan, announces a new innovative learning programme “Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons” for young people ages 18-29 years. The new programme is aimed at equipping the leaders of the future with the knowledge, skills, and network to join global efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons – the most dangerous weapons on earth. The programme seeks youth who are motivated to use their talents to promote change for a more peaceful and secure world.

Past event: Global Launch of the UNODA Disarmament Education Strategy

The virtual launch event addressed the role of disarmament education in advancing disarmament efforts and in contributing to other UN global agendas, as well as the centrality of partnerships in achieving such goals. It featured opening remarks by the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs and a panel discussion with distinguished experts and representatives of key stakeholder groups, including government, the media, academia and former participants of UNODA’s flagship educational and youth initiatives.
