The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), with the generous support of the government of Japan, announces a new innovative learning programme “Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons” for young people ages 18-29 years. The new programme is aimed at equipping the leaders of the future with the knowledge, skills, and network to join global efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons – the most dangerous weapons on earth. The programme seeks youth who are motivated to use their talents to promote change for a more peaceful and secure world.
MoreThe virtual launch event addressed the role of disarmament education in advancing disarmament efforts and in contributing to other UN global agendas, as well as the centrality of partnerships in achieving such goals. It featured opening remarks by the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs and a panel discussion with distinguished experts and representatives of key stakeholder groups, including government, the media, academia and former participants of UNODA’s flagship educational and youth initiatives.
MoreThe events hosted by the UNODA Vienna Office contribute to one of the key goals enshrined in the UN Secretary-General`s Agenda for Disarmament, launched in 2018, to revive serious multilateral dialogue and bring disarmament and non-proliferation back to the centre of the work of the United Nations.
